Collector inspects poll arrangements

Kakinada: District collector MN Harendhira Prasad on Friday directed officials to make comprehensive arrangements for the impartial conduct of municipal elections in Pithapuram, Gollaprolu, Peddapuram and Samarlakota.

During his visit to the four municipalities, the collector inspected the arrangements at election material distribution centres, reception centres, counting centres and strong rooms. He reviewed the facilities for distributing polling material, receiving it after polling and counting votes, besides security measures for safeguarding ballot boxes.

He directed municipal commissioners and revenue and police officials to ensure a two-tier security system at strong rooms and continuous CCTV surveillance. The safety of election material should be given the highest priority, he said.

The collector instructed officials to provide basic facilities, including electricity, drinking water, toilets and public address systems, at all centres. Emphasising the need for advance planning, Harendhira Prasad asked officials to anticipate potential problems and take preventive measures to avoid disruptions during the election process.
