Kakinada: Rajya Sabha member Sana Satish Babu said a Skill, Startup, Bharat Hub is being established in Kakinada to provide local skill training for youth and create better employment and self-employment opportunities. He laid the foundation stone on Monday for the first phase of the skill centre at the Government ITI premises with Rs 5.30 crore sanctioned from his Rajya Sabha MP-LADS funds.
Speaking on the occasion, Satish Babu said a survey conducted three years ago under the special programme Kakinada District for Kakinada had found that about 80% of people wanted greater focus on employment and livelihood opportunities. The proposed hub would provide not only skill training but also incubation and entrepreneurship support, in line with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s vision of One Home, One Entrepreneur.
The project was being taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore to Rs 20 crore on two acres allotted by the government at the ITI premises.
The first phase would focus on the skill centre, while the second phase would include hostel facilities for students from distant areas such as Tuni and Konaseema, he said. He also added that discussions had already been held with representatives of Divis Laboratories, Aurobindo Pharma, AM Green and Coromandel Fertilisers to provide training in skills required by local industries and facilitate direct employment.
Training would be offered in artificial intelligence, cyber security, web development, drones, agri-tech, green energy, food processing, aquaculture and oil and gas sectors. Training had already begun with the support of local colleges instead of waiting for completion of the building. About 35 students had received Java training from trainers from Bengaluru five months ago and some of them had secured jobs, he said.
MLC Perabathula Rajasekharam said the availability of skill development programmes in Kakinada was a major opportunity for youth from the Godavari districts. MLC Karri Padmasri said the centre would provide a strong foundation for the future of youth by bridging the gap between academic education and practical skills. DCCB chairman Tummala Ramaswamy said training based on the requirements of local industries would enable youth to secure jobs in their home district.
Kakinada City MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao appreciated Satish Babu for using MP funds for a permanent project aimed at benefiting future generations. Kakinada Rural MLA Pantham Nanaji said skill was the real capital for the future of youth. Peddapuram MLA Nimmakayala China Rajappa welcomed the establishment of the skill hub with incubation facilities and expressed hope that trained youth would get employment and higher education opportunities.
Prathipadu MLA Varupula Satyaprabha said the centre would provide guidance and opportunities to talented youth, including women and those from remote, backward and tribal areas. District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad and others also spoke. Satish Babu was felicitated by the MLAs and MLCs on the occasion.
