DLSA brings legal aid closer to farmers
Karimnagar: Farmers facing legal or financial difficulties can avail themselves of free legal services from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Senior Civil Judge and DLSA Secretary Yashwant Singh said.
Addressing a legal awareness seminar at Kothapalli Mandal Rythu Vedika on Tuesday under the ‘Rythu Nestham’ programme, Singh said the DLSA would assist economically disadvantaged farmers, tenant farmers and agricultural labourers unable to bear legal expenses. Eligible beneficiaries can seek free legal representation and counselling by calling the toll-free number 15100.
He explained rights relating to pattadar passbooks, land acquisition compensation and rehabilitation, tenant farmer welfare schemes and Kisan Credit Card loans. Farmers were also advised on legal protection from harassment by private moneylenders.
Singh highlighted crop insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and urged farmers to approach consumer forums over poor-quality seeds and adulterated fertilisers. He also suggested using Lok Adalats, Tele-Law and the LSMS portal for speedy legal assistance.
