Karimnagar: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue in Jammikunta on Friday and said Gandhi’s ideals of truth, justice and equality remained relevant to society.

Speaking to the media after the programme, Bandi Sanjay recalled Gandhi’s simple lifestyle and faith in Lord Rama. Referring to recent political remarks on Lord Rama, he questioned whether Gandhi, who lived a simple life and regularly invoked Rama’s name, could be portrayed as representing the wealthy.

He said Gandhi regarded Rama as a symbol of truth, righteousness and justice and opposed the pursuit of power and dynastic politics. Those claiming to uphold Gandhi’s legacy, he said, should follow these principles. Bandi Sanjay alleged that the present Congress leadership was pursuing dynastic politics and accused it of attempting to divide Hindus for political purposes. Referring to Gandhi’s vision of ‘Ram Rajya’, he said it envisaged a society without distinctions between the rich and poor, where the last person received justice and welfare. He claimed that the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were working towards such governance through welfare and development programmes and the implementation of common laws.
