INDIA bloc turns up heat in Karimnagar over ‘vote theft’ allegations
Karimnagar: Leaders of INDIA bloc parties staged a rally from Indira Chowk to the Collectorate here on Tuesday, protesting alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and extending support to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s campaign against alleged “vote theft.” The protest was organised as part of Democracy Protection Week. Participants demonstrated outside the Collectorate and burnt an effigy representing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They later submitted a memorandum through the District Collector to the Centre, seeking the CEC’s removal.
Congress leader Dr Medipalli Satyam alleged that the Election Commission’s credibility was being undermined and demanded a probe by a sitting Supreme Court judge.
Other INDIA bloc leaders alleged that deletion of votes could disproportionately affect BC, SC, ST, minority and other marginalised communities. CPI, CPI(M), Forward Bloc, CPI(ML) Mass Line, AISF and other constituent organisations participated.
