Khammam: The Ganesh procession organised by the Stambhadri Utsav Committee as part of the Navaratri celebrations was held in the city on Wednesday amid religious fervour and enthusiasm. SUDA Chairman Puvvada Durga Prasad attended the procession as the chief guest. Along with Khammam Police Commissioner Sunil Dutt, Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Agastya and the trainee collector, he participated in the procession organised by the Stambhadri Utsav Committee and formally inaugurated it by offering flowers to the Ganesh idols.
A large number of devotees participated in the celebrations and offered special prayers to Lord Ganesha. Later, Durga Prasad inspected the arrangements made by the Khammam Municipal Corporation at the immersion ghat for the immersion of Ganesh idols. He reviewed facilities provided for devotees and members of Ganesh festival committees and sought details from officials regarding the arrangements.
He also discussed security arrangements, traffic management and facilities for the smooth immersion of idols. He reviewed the coordination among various departments to ensure that the immersion programme was conducted peacefully and without inconvenience to devotees. As part of the environmental message, Durga Prasad also immersed an eco-friendly clay Ganesh idol at the immersion ghat.
Former Khammam Mayor Punnukollu Neeraja, Stambhadri Utsav Committee members Vidyasagar, Vinod Lahoti, Kannam Krishna and Madhu, leaders Palakurthi Nageswara Rao, Puchchakayala Veerabhadram and Tupakula Swamy, former corporators, leaders, activists and devotees were among those present.
