Khammam: BJP has announced a major protest against the continued inclusion of lands in the 22A prohibited properties list, alleging that the Telangana government has failed to resolve the issue affecting thousands of landowners across the state.

BJP district president Nelluri Koteswara Rao said the party would organise a Maha Dharna at Dharna Chowk near the Khammam Collectorate on Thursday, demanding relief for farmers and other landowners affected by the restrictions.

Addressing a meeting of key district party leaders here on Wednesday, Rao alleged that lakhs of poor and middle-class farmers has been unable to exercise ownership rights over lands they had been possessing for decades. The restrictions has also prevented them from selling or transferring their properties, causing severe financial hardship, he said.

He alleged that thousands of acres has been included in the prohibited list under Section 22A of the Registration Act without proper justification. As a result, people are unable to sell their land even to meet pressing needs such as children’s marriages, higher education and medical expenses, Rao said.
