Wanaparthy: Land oustees affected by the Buddaram Pedda Cheruvu project submitted a petition to MLA Thudi Megha Reddy on Sunday, demanding compensation at three times the market value under the Land Acquisition Act, 2013.

CPM district secretary Putta Anjaneyulu and district secretariat member MD Jabbar met the MLA and discussed eight demands on behalf of the affected families.

The CPM leaders said the market value of the land, as assessed under the 2013 Land Acquisition Act, was Rs 15.75 lakh. They said offering only Rs 15 lakh as compensation was unjust and demanded Rs 47.25 lakh in accordance with their demand for compensation at three times the market value. They also demanded additional compensation for borewells, open wells, pipelines, fruit orchards, mango, coconut, teak and jamun trees, as well as electricity transformers.

Citing the Kodangal Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), the leaders said farmers in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s constituency had received special consideration through GO No 333, under which compensation was reportedly increased to Rs 20 lakh even though the market value was Rs 2.25 lakh. They demanded similar treatment for Buddaram farmers.

The leaders also demanded jobs for land-losing youth aged 18 and above, Indiramma housing for eligible families and house sites for those who did not own houses or plots.

Regarding lands in Survey Nos. 176, 177, 178, and 204, they urged the authorities to correct the records in favour of the actual occupants rather than those whose names appeared in the official records and ensure that compensation was paid to the actual landholders.

The CPM leaders said the government had issued a special order in Kodangal to ensure justice for farmers and demanded similar action in Buddaram. They warned that the agitation would be intensified if their demands were not met.

Responding to the petition, the MLA said the government was currently offering Rs 15 lakh in compensation. He assured the oustees that he would discuss the issue with the government again and make efforts to secure an increase in compensation. He also promised to provide Indiramma houses and house sites to eligible families.

The CPM leaders stated that their party would continue fighting for higher compensation on behalf of the farmers until justice was delivered.
