Congress demands BRS MLC’s membership cancellation

Khammam: District Congress Committee president Nuthi Satyanarayana Goud condemned the alleged objectionable remarks made by BRS MLC Tata Madhusudhan against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and demanded cancellation of his membership of the Legislative Council.

In a statement on Monday, Goud said making such remarks against a person holding a constitutional position amounted to insulting democratic institutions and constitutional values. “Every elected representative had a responsibility to respect the office of the Assembly Speaker, which symbolised the functioning of parliamentary democracy,” he said.

“Is this the political training imparted by BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao?” Goud asked, questioning the conduct of Madhusudhan.

He alleged that the BRS MLC had become a ‘brand ambassador for objectionable language’ used by the BRS and demanded that the Legislative Council take stringent action against him.

Goud further alleged that Madhusudhan’s remarks had hurt the sentiments of the Dalit community.

He accused the BRS of adopting an anti-Dalit stance, alleging that the party had earlier promised to make a Dalit the Chief Minister but failed to honour the commitment.

Allowing such remarks to go unchecked would undermine the dignity of constitutional offices and weaken public confidence in democratic institutions, Goud said, urging the authorities to initiate stringent action against Madhusudhan.
