Heritage enthusiasts trek Ghanapuram Fort

Wanaparthy: As part of World Tourism Day, a trekking event was organised by the Tourism department at Ghanapuram Fort in Khilla Ghanapuram mandal on Sunday, with the aim of introducing to the public the historic and tourist sites of the district and highlight their significance. Local MLA Thudi Megha Reddy and collector Adarsh Surabhi participated.

Accompanied by public representatives, students, officials and delegates, they visited the fort and learned about its historic details. Reddy stated that the fort possesses a rich history; the historic structures in the region stand as a testament to the ingenuity and architectural skills of our ancestors.

He noted that the construction of inter-connected tank systems during the Kakatiya era demonstrated an effective method of water resource management. These structures reflect the foresight and architectural brilliance of the rulers. There is a need to develop the historic and tourist sites in the district and bring them greater recognition. Regarding the development of the fort, he stated that he had discussed with Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao. Steps are being taken to develop the site with an allocation of Rs 2 crore. The GO is yet to be issued; once the permissions and orders are received, work will commence. The goal is to develop the fort in all respects and transform it into a tourist hub. Surabhi explained that the trekking was organised with the aim of introducing these places to the public. Raising awareness about the uniqueness, historic background, and natural beauty of the district’s tourist spots is essential.
