Khammam : BJP national co-in-charge for Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and former MLC Dr Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Friday described Karnataka Minister B Nagendra’s resignation as a significant victory for tribal justice, public accountability and the BJP’s sustained campaign against corruption.
He was speaking to media over phone to here on Friday.
Reddy said the issue was not merely about a minister resigning from office but concerned the alleged diversion of public funds meant for the welfare and economic development of Scheduled Tribe communities.
“Every rupee diverted from the corporation represents an opportunity denied to an eligible tribal family,” Reddy said, referring to the alleged financial irregularities involving the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation.
He said the alleged irregularities had assumed greater seriousness following the death by suicide of an official linked to the matter.
Reddy praised Karnataka BJP leaders, legislators, MLCs and party workers for consistently raising the issue inside and outside the legislature.
“From the Assembly to the Legislative Council and from Vidhana Soudha to the streets of Karnataka, this was a sustained democratic struggle,” he said.
The BJP leader claimed that the party’s protests and pressure had forced the government to face questions on the alleged irregularities, eventually leading to Nagendra’s resignation.
However, Reddy said the resignation should not mark the end of the matter and demanded a thorough investigation.
“The people of Karnataka deserve to know where the money went, who was responsible and who benefited,” he said, urging investigating agencies to complete their probe without political pressure.
Reddy also warned that the Karnataka BJP would continue to raise issues concerning alleged corruption, financial irregularities, administrative failures and public grievances.
“If public money is misused, we will question it. If the government fails, we will place the facts before the people,” he said.
Calling Nagendra’s resignation more than a political victory, Reddy said it represented a victory for tribal rights, public accountability, transparency and responsible governance.
