Khammam: The government has initiated steps to improve accommodation facilities for officials and public representatives in Khammam district, with tenders invited for the construction of new Roads and Buildings (R&B) guest houses in Khammam and Sathupalli, while proposals are being prepared for another facility at Kallur.

The proposed guest houses are aimed at providing improved accommodation and facilities for visiting officials, public representatives and other dignitaries, besides supporting official meetings and government programmes.

Under the plan, a new guest house with six suites is proposed at Khammam at an estimated cost of Rs 7.70 crore, while a four-suite facility at Sathupalli has been taken up with an estimated cost of Rs 3.50 crore. The tendering process for both projects is under way, according to the details provided by officials.

The existing R&B guest house in Khammam, constructed around five decades ago, has reportedly developed structural and maintenance issues, including cracks in walls, water leakage and deterioration of concrete.

Initial estimates for the project were prepared at Rs 7.70 crore and submitted to the government for approval. However, in view of rising construction costs and the need for modern facilities, a revised proposal estimating the project cost at Rs 10 crore has also been submitted to the government.

At Sathupalli, a four-suite R&B guest house has been under consideration since 2016. The project was initially approved at Rs 1.50 crore, and the estimate was subsequently revised to Rs 3 crore.

With construction costs increasing over the years, tenders were invited based on an estimate of Rs 3.50 crore. A further proposal to raise the project cost to Rs 5 crore has now been submitted to the government, and approval for the revised estimate is awaited.

Meanwhile, officials have been directed to prepare proposals for a new R&B guest house at Kallur, with modern amenities. The project is at the proposal stage, and further progress will depend on the preparation of estimates and the required administrative approvals.

Minister for Agriculture Tummala Nageswara Rao has been taking steps to improve infrastructure and government accommodation facilities in the district, officials said.

If implemented, the three projects are expected to strengthen government accommodation infrastructure in Khammam, Sathupalli, and Kallur and provide improved facilities for official visits and government-related activities.
