Rajya Sabha MP and Telangana Munnuru Kapu Sangham honorary state president Vaddiraju Ravichandra
Khammam: Rajya Sabha MP and Telangana Munnuru Kapu Sangham honorary state president Vaddiraju Ravichandra on Monday demanded that the Telangana government allocate Rs 5,000 crore to the Munnuru Kapu Corporation in the state budget and provide representation to the community in the State Cabinet.
Addressing a Munnuru Kapu community gathering at the Munnuru Kapu Hostel in Khammam, Ravichandra said the proposed allocation would benefit youth, women and economically disadvantaged farmers belonging to the community.
The meeting, chaired by district association honorary president Kotha Seetharamulu, was organised to administer the oath of office to the newly elected district committee and executive members.
Ravichandra said the district committee had been elected unanimously with the participation of Munnuru Kapu leaders from various political parties, demonstrating the community’s unity beyond political affiliations.
He said he had traditionally stayed away from electoral contests within the community association, preferring consensus-based leadership to strengthen unity. He urged community members to remain active in different political parties while working together on issues concerning their collective welfare.
Referring to the political representation of the community, the MP said several senior leaders, including V. Hanumantha Rao, D. Srinivas, K. Keshava Rao and Ponnala Lakshmaiah, had aspired to the Chief Minister’s post but could not secure it. He stressed the need for greater political participation and unity among Munnuru Kapus.
He also expressed concern over the community not finding a place in the Telangana Cabinet and called for appropriate representation in the government.
Ravichandra said he would strive for the development of the Munnuru Kapu function hall in Khammam and the construction of a statue of former association president Mekala Sangaiah.
Referring to the community’s organisational development, he said the Telangana Munnuru Kapu Sangham had secured five acres of land in Hyderabad for its activities and that construction of a building estimated at Rs 150 crore had been initiated.
He urged women to develop leadership qualities and participate actively in politics. He also encouraged youth to pursue entrepreneurship and students to seek higher education and excel in their chosen fields.
The meeting was attended by Munnuru Kapu Sangham state vice-president Akula Gandhi, former district president Para Nageswara Rao, state leader Podila Ravi Kumar, CPI district secretary Dandi Suresh, district president Sheelamsetti Veerabhadram, general secretary Pasupuleti Devenderam and several other community leaders and members.
