Nandyal: The Higher Education Department has transferred Dr S Lalitha, Principal of the Government Degree College in Banaganapalle, following severe allegations of corruption and administrative irregularities.

Commissioner of Collegiate Education Narayana Bharat Gupta issued orders transferring her to the Government Degree College at Togarampalli in Srikakulam district, noting that a departmental inquiry against her remains pending. The administrative action follows a wave of complaints alleging that the principal demanded bribes ranging from Rs. 10,000 for staff transfers and cuts from guest faculty bills to improper payments for processing retirement files.

The controversy escalated after screenshots of alleged PhonePe transactions circulated widely on social media.

Affected staff members lodged formal grievances with Minister BC Janardhan Reddy and senior education officials.

While Dr Lalitha has denied all charges as baseless, the impending departmental inquiry will thoroughly examine the allegations.

Meanwhile, the administrative turmoil has drawn public attention to broader institutional challenges.

Parents and student advocates have urged authorities to immediately fill 15 vacant regular teaching posts at the Banaganapalle college, warning that persistent faculty shortages are severely undermining academic activities and calling for urgent measures to restore educational standards.
