Kurnool: Four persons, including the driver of a private travels bus, sustained serious injuries when the bus collided with a lorry taking a U-turn and overturned near Somayajulapalli in Nandyal district in the early hours of Monday. One of the injured was reportedly in critical condition. The accident caused panic among the passengers, with several others suffering minor injuries.

According to details, the Veera Kaleshwari Travels bus was proceeding from Hyderabad to Proddatur with around 30 passengers when it rammed into the lorry while the latter was taking a U-turn near Somayajulapalli. The impact was severe and the bus overturned on the road. The driver and three passengers sustained serious injuries, while several other passengers received minor injuries in the accident.

On receiving information about the mishap, police reached the spot and took up rescue operations. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police and local people helped evacuate the passengers from the overturned bus. Traffic was also affected for some time following the accident, and the police took steps to clear the road.

Preliminary investigation suggested that the bus driver might have been drowsy while driving, which could have led to the accident, police said. However, the exact circumstances leading to the mishap are being ascertained. Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the accident. Further details regarding the condition of the injured are awaited.
