CPI demands immediate relief from soaring fuel, LPG, and food prices

Nandyal: Protesting the continuous escalation in the prices of essential commodities, cadres of the Communist Party of India (CPI) staged demonstrations across Nandyal and Yemmiganur on Wednesday, demanding immediate intervention by the Central and State governments to control inflation. Leading a rally in Nandyal from Gandhi Chowk to Kalpana Centre, CPI Nandyal District Secretary Ranganayudu criticized both governments for shifting financial burdens onto working-class and middle-income families.

Following the rally, protesters sat on a dharna at Kalpana Centre, demanding immediate price reductions on daily staples including rice, pulses, edible oil, salt, and sugar, alongside cuts in petrol, diesel, and cooking gas rates. Ranganayudu urged authorities to clamp down heavily on hoarding and black marketing to stabilize retail markets.

Meanwhile, CPI leaders in Yemmiganur organized a novel protest by carrying gas cylinders, rice sacks, and edible oil cans during a rally through major thoroughfares.

The procession culminated in a sit-in demonstration at Somappa Circle, where activists raised slogans against government economic policies.

Addressing the gatherings, CPI leaders highlighted that skyrocketing commodity prices have severely eroded household budgets while public purchasing power continues to decline.

They demanded that the state and central administrations establish efficient market intervention mechanisms, ensure adequate public distribution of essential food items, and guarantee remunerative prices for farming communities. Warning that minor palliatives would not suffice, CPI leaders cautioned that failure to provide swift relief to ordinary citizens would force the party to mobilize a massive, state-wide sustained agitation.
