KGBV student ends life at hostel

A 16-year-old student at a KGBV hostel in Nandyal district died after allegedly consuming phenyl. Police have recovered a suicide note and launched an investigation.

Kurnool: A 16-year-old Intermediate first-year student allegedly committed suicide by consuming phenyl at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) hostel in Kothapalli mandal of Nandyal district on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as B Bhavya, daughter of Boya Tulari Raju and Jayalakshmi of M Lingapuram village.
According to police, Bhavya allegedly consumed phenyl in the hostel bathroom. Fellow students noticed her in an unconscious condition and immediately alerted the KGBV staff. The staff shifted her to the Kothapalli Primary Health Centre for emergency treatment. As her condition was critical, she was subsequently referred to the Government Community Health Centre, where doctors examined her and declared her dead.
On receiving information, police reached the hostel and examined the circumstances leading to the incident. They reportedly recovered a suicide note from the scene and are examining its contents to ascertain the circumstances behind the student’s death. While some local sources suspected that a personal relationship between two hostel girl students could have been a factor, police have not confirmed the claim and said all possible angles were being examined as part of the investigation.
Atmakur Rural CI Suresh Kumar Reddy and SI Narayana Reddy said a case had been registered and an investigation was under way. Police were questioning the hostel staff and students and gathering other relevant information to establish the sequence of events.
The incident has caused shock among the student’s family members, fellow students and local residents, with the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death remaining under investigation.
