Kurnool: Nomination filings for the Kurnool Municipal Corporation general elections gained significant momentum on Saturday, with 177 nominations received for mayoral and corporator seats on the second day alone.
Additional Election Authority and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Challa Obulesu confirmed that five nominations were submitted for the mayor’s post and 172 for corporator wards on Saturday.
With these additions, the total tally of nominations filed across the first two days has reached 192, comprising seven for mayor and 185 for corporators.
Commissioner Obulesu advised prospective candidates and their proposers to verify their names in the final electoral roll published on September 28, 2026. Emphasizing strict adherence to election regulations and the Model Code of Conduct, he cautioned that flying squads and static surveillance teams are actively monitoring proceedings across all municipal zones, with firm legal action awaiting any violations.
A central focus of the administrative oversight is campaign finance. The Commissioner announced that expenditure limits have been strictly fixed at a maximum of Rs 25 lakh for mayoral candidates and Rs 10 lakh for corporator contestants.
Candidates are required to maintain transparent daily records of all election-related expenses. Designated expenditure monitoring teams will execute regular audits and physical inspections throughout the campaign period to ensure strict compliance with statutory guidelines.
The election authority reiterated that maintaining free, fair, and transparent democratic processes remains top priority as candidate filings continue in the coming days.
