Viral video puts spotlight on alleged attack on CPI candidate
Kurnool: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has alleged that its ZPTC candidate from Rudravaram mandal, K. Bhaskar, was threatened by ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate K. Raja Rao and his associates near the CPI district party office in Nandyal around 11 pm. The alleged incident has triggered political concern, with a video purportedly related to the episode surfacing and going viral on social media.
According to CPI leaders, ruling party candidate Raja Rao allegedly arrived at the spot along with police constable Obulesu and four other supporters and attempted to intimidate Bhaskar, who was inside the party office. The CPI alleged that the incident was intended to pressure its candidate during the ongoing local body election process. Party leaders claimed that such acts undermined the democratic spirit of elections. However, the allegations are yet to be independently verified, and the viral video requires official examination.
CPI leaders said they brought the incident to the notice of the Nandyal Superintendent of Police through a message and dialled 100 to lodge a complaint. They expressed concern over the alleged involvement of a police constable and questioned his reported presence at the party office late at night. The party further alleged that the group claimed to have been sent by a Sub-Inspector and urged the police authorities to investigate the claim.
CPI district secretary N. Ranga Naidu and other party workers reportedly confronted the group and questioned its presence at the office. The CPI has demanded an impartial inquiry into the incident, including the video circulating on social media, and action against those found responsible. Party leaders urged the police department to ensure the safety of opposition candidates and maintain a peaceful atmosphere, allowing all contestants to participate in the elections without fear or intimidation.
