Mahabubnagar: Government Whip and Mahabubnagar MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy said the Red Cross Society should be strengthened further to provide quality medical services to poor and underprivileged people. He inaugurated a mega blood donation camp organised jointly by Social Justice for World Human Rights Council and the Red Cross Society here on Thursday. Several donors voluntarily donated blood, and Srinivas Reddy presented certificates of appreciation to them. Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated the Red Cross Society for organising the camp following the new executive committee taking charge. He congratulated Chairman KS Ravikumar, Vice-Chairman Ramakrishnaiah, Treasurer G Ramanaiah, and other executive members. He said the existing Red Cross office was small and congested, limiting the expansion of services. A modern building equipped with advanced medical equipment and diagnostic facilities should be constructed to meet future needs, he said.
Srinivas Reddy said the aim was to provide medical tests and treatment to poor people at nominal cost so that they would not suffer financial burden by depending on private hospitals. He appealed to prominent citizens, businesspeople, donors and service-minded individuals to come forward beyond political considerations and support the expansion of Red Cross services.
He also suggested conducting awareness programmes on health, sanitation, and women and childcare in rural and remote areas.
Later, Red Cross Society members felicitated the MLA with a garland.
