Jagga Reddy, Nirmala start sit-in protest in Sangareddy in support of Rahul’s fight
Sangareddy: Telangana PCC working president T Jagga Reddy and his wife Nirmala began a sit-in protest here in support of Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi’s and other leaders agitation demanding resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They started the solidarity sit-in protest at 10 pm along with party activists at the Ambedkar statue, near the old bus-stand.
Reddy said Rahul Gandhi is fighting for the voting rights of the people of the country. “Our sit-in protest will continue as long as Rahul’s fight continues,” he said while demanding CEC’s resignation. The leaders’ agitation, he stated was to protect the voting rights/democratic rights of people.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy made serious allegations about the functioning of the Election Commission. He alleged that in States where the BJP is strong, the election system was altered to favour the party and help it come to power. He said the BJP came to power at the Centre three times with the cooperation of the Election Commission, and Rahul Gandhi has raised questions about this on several occasions.
“This is not just a political fight of the Congress Party; it is a political battle to protect the voting rights of the people of the country. Rahul Gandhi is sitting on the streets and fighting for the rights of the people,” Reddy said.
He accused the Election Commission of acting arbitrarily even in the SIR process and said the commission has the responsibility to answer the public regarding the disputes arising over voter lists. He referred to the allegations made by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi that attempts are being made to undermine the voting rights of people. Reddy declared full support for Rahul’s agitation demanding the resignation of CEC. He condemned the police for obstructing and detaining Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and other Opposition leaders in Delhi.
“We will continue our solidarity protest in Sangareddy for as long as Rahul Gandhi continues his fight. Our agitation will continue in support of the demand for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation,” he said.
Reddy noted that since the establishment of the independent election system in the country, the Nehru–Gandhi family has always prioritised the protection of democratic institutions. He recalled that former PMs Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives for the nation, and Sonia Gandhi served the public for many years. “Rahul Gandhi, who comes from a family with a history of sacrifice, is now fighting for the voting rights of people of the country. People should voluntarily stand in support of his struggle,” Reddy appealed.
Nirmala, along with party leaders, public representatives, and activists, expressed solidarity with Rahul’s agitation.
