Irrigation water flows away after breach in Sagar canal
Nagarjuna Sagar (Nalgonda): A major breach in the Sagar Left Canal near the Rajavaram Major Canal has resulted in large quantities of irrigation water going to waste. The water flowing through the Left Canal is reportedly reaching areas up to Khammam.
Farmers alleged that the Irrigation Department officials have failed to take timely action, allowing the water to flow through agricultural fields and eventually enter a nearby downstream tank.
According to farmers, the absence of lining in the canal has caused severe erosion, weakening the canal embankment and eventually resulting in the breach. The continuous flow of water is raising concerns among farmers, particularly over the possible impact on agricultural fields and the loss of valuable irrigation water.
Farmers have urged Irrigation Department officials to immediately inspect the damaged portion, plug the breach and undertake necessary repair works. They also appealed to authorities to take permanent measures, including strengthening and lining the canal, to prevent similar breaches and ensure efficient supply of irrigation water.
