Nellore: TDP suffered a major setback in Sarvepalli constituency as about 70 families from Kakarlavari Palem village in Venkatachalam mandal left the party and joined the YSR Congress Party on Wednesday.

Former Minister and party district president Dr Kakani Govardhan Reddy welcomed them into the party by offering party scarves at his residence in Nellore.

Govardhan Reddy said that TDP activists in large numbers joining the YSRCP was an indication of the growing confidence among people in their party and its leadership. He said he was happy to welcome the 70 families from Kakarlavari Palem into the party.

He pointed out that TDP leaders and activists in the constituency were facing difficulties due to the alleged corruption and irregularities. He claimed that even people, who had supported TDP for decades, were now recalling the development and welfare programmes implemented during the tenure of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

He predicted that more people are likely to join YSRCP in the coming days.
