Nellore: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has said the government is committed to providing security, dignity, and property ownership to poor and middle-class families. On Sunday, Naidu virtually launched the distribution of permanent house-site titles to 939 eligible families at Sarvepalli Katta in Nellore district from his camp office, ending decades of uncertainty for families living on government land.
Approximately Rs 30,000 crore was being spent to provide piped water connections to every household, while around Rs 1.80 lakh crore was being invested in improving infrastructure in urban and rural areas, the Chief Minister added. The Chief Minister said the coalition government had demonstrated its commitment to rebuilding Andhra Pradesh through welfare, development, and good governance during its 28 months in office. Providing permanent house titles to families that had lived for decades on government land was an important step towards fulfilling that commitment, he added.
The programme, attended by Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana and Nellore District Collector Himanshu Shukla, secured permanent rights for poor families over 22.31 acres of land valued at approximately Rs 600 crore. In all, 701 of the beneficiaries were women, reflecting the coalition government’s emphasis on women’s empowerment. The Chief Minister promised that another 4,000 poor families in Nellore city would receive permanent house titles by the coming Sankranti festival. He said the government was implementing the initiative across the state as a major campaign. In Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Mangalagiri, around 60,000 families had received house titles, covering properties valued at Rs 52,000 crore, he said.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s welfare initiatives, including social security pensions, the Thalliki Vandanam scheme, free bus travel for women under Stree Shakti and the Deepam-2 cooking gas subsidy scheme. He said the government had not increased electricity tariff and was encouraging rooftop solar power installations.
Minister Narayana said the beneficiaries were delighted to receive permanent titles and added that steps were being taken to complete TIDCO houses and hand them over to eligible families. The government had also decided to distribute house titles in the Jafar Saheb Canal area shortly.
