A five-storey building in the Seemapuri area in Delhi has collapsed on Wednesday and several persons are reportedly trapped there. A search operation is underway by fire and rescue teams.

Officials in the Seemapuri area in northeast Delhi have reported that a five-storey building collapsed on Wednesday afternoon trapping several people as the contents of the building remain scattered around.

Delhi Fire Service (DFS) was informed about the structure collapse at approximately 03:30 pm when it immediately mobilized fire tenders and rescue men on the spot.

A search and rescue operation is ongoing and officials are still checking the rubble for any people that might be sealed inside, officials said.

Front Part Of Building Falls Down

Images from the site revealed that much debris had been spread out after the front section of the multi-storey building collapsed.

There were several people around the area that were trying to rake away some of the debris and concrete from the rubble. Others were spotted taking photos on their cell phones of the rescue.

The extent of casualties or injuries was not immediately known.

Search in debris still continues

Emergency workers are still working to find anyone who may be trapped under the collapsed building.

Delhi Fire Service official said that some people may be stuck in the debris, and an immediate search operation started.

As rescue work continues, authorities will determine the state of the remaining structure.

Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisory

The collapse also impacted traffic flow around the Seemapuri area.

As ambulances, fire engines and other emergency vehicles are expected to run in the affected area, the Delhi Traffic Police appealed to people to avoid the area.

There was reported traffic congestion in the area of Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and nearby roads.

The traffic police pleaded with commuters to refrain from stopping or parking vehicles near the scene, or from congregating there, and urged them to obey traffic instructions.

Incident comes a month after Satya Niketan tragedy

The incident came after a series of building collapses, following a separate building collapse in Delhi's Satya Niketan, which killed seven people and injured several last month.

The two events have again highlighted the issues of building safety and emergency preparedness in the national capital.

Further details about the cause of the Seemapuri collapse, the number of people trapped or any casualties are awaited as rescue teams continue their operation.

Always love to raise the unraised matter. In a world of worries, I am always ready to come over my comfort zone and taking the step ahead of spreading awareness.
