Veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away at his Goa residence on Thursday morning at the age of 75 following a suspected heart attack.
Mumbai: Veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away at his Goa residence on Thursday morning at the age of 75 following a suspected heart attack. After sending a message to a friend around 3:30 AM stating he was feeling unwell, he was rushed to a Dona Paula hospital but could not be revived despite receiving CPR for 45 minutes. His last rites will be performed with full state honors at his Pune farmhouse.
Born Vishwanath Patekar on January 1, 1951, in Raigad, Maharashtra, he faced severe childhood poverty, walking 16 kilometers daily to print movie posters and painting zebra crossings to earn a living. He studied commercial art at Sir J.J. School of Art before transitioning from theatre to cinema, making his debut with Gaman (1978).
Patekar gained wide acclaim for his intense, raw performances in landmark films like Salaam Bombay!, Parinda, Krantiveer, Khamoshi: The Musical, Prahaar: The Final Act, and comedy hits like Welcome. A recipient of the Padma Shri and three National Film Awards, he was also known for his military training during Prahaar and spending two months on the frontline during the 1999 Kargil War.
