NDMC honours 7 sanitation workers for waste, mural drives

New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Wednesday felicitated seven sanitation workers for converting wet waste into organic compost and 15 artists for creating murals across Connaught Place, officials said. NDMC Chairman Manoj Kumar Dwivedi felicitated the sanitation workers at Palika Kendra and said their work demonstrated how biodegradable waste could be converted into a useful resource.
He said that the civic body has produced around 13,000 kg of compost over the past year at its decentralised facility on Madhu Limaye Marg, Chanakyapuri, using wet and green waste from the NDMC area.
“The initiative falls under the council’s ‘Waste to Wealth’ and ‘Waste to Greenery’ approach, aimed at cutting waste sent for disposal and reducing transportation-linked emissions through decentralised processing,” Dwivedi said.
Dwivedi called for replicating the model at other locations, including Anupam Colony, and said NDMC is working towards a circular system linking compost production to greenery and landscaping in line with Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.
The council also felicitated 15 artists who took part in a seven-day workshop under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, creating traditional and contemporary Indian murals at five locations in and around Connaught Place from September 17-23. The artists, drawn from Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana, painted murals spread over about 4,200 sq ft depicting themes of heritage, culture and ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’, at sites including Panchkuian Road and the Outer and Middle Circles of Connaught Place.
Dwivedi said the murals had beautified public spaces while showcasing India’s artistic heritage.
