New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday greeted people on the occasion of Dhanteras, the first day of Diwali festivities, and hoped their lives would always be illuminated with happiness, peace and good health by the divine grace of Lord Dhanvantari.
Modi also urged everyone to make a commitment to better health this Dhanteras. "Wishing endless warm greetings to all fellow countrymen on the occasion of Dhanteras. May everyone's life always be illuminated with happiness, peace and good health by the divine grace of Lord Dhanvantari.
May the eternal lamp of joy and cheer remain ignited in every family âs this is my heartfelt best wish," Modi said in a post on X in Hindi. The prime minister also encouraged families to adopt healthier habits, from mindful eating and regular yoga to adequate sleep and timely health screenings. "Let us invest in what matters most the health of our loved ones and a healthier future for our families," he said, commenting on an article by Union minister Prataprao Jadhav on the importance of investing in healthcare. Buying gold, silver, utensils, etc., on Dhanteras is a popular Hindu tradition, as these metals are believed to symbolise wealth, prosperity and good fortune.
The occasion, also known as Dhantrayodashi, is celebrated two days before Diwali, marking the beginning of five-day festivities. In much of north India, the festivities begin with Dhanteras, followed by Naraka Chaturdashi (Chhoti Diwali), Diwali, Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj.
