Burns CEC’s effigy
Nizamabad: Congress leaders staged a protest at NTR Chowk on Wednesday, demanding the immediate scrapping of the Strategic Information Restructuring (SIR) voter system. The protesters burnt an effigy of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and raised slogans against the Union government.
DCC President Nagesh Reddy and Corporation President Bobbili Ramakrishna demanded the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the SIR implementation was depriving millions of citizens of their right to vote. They accused the BJP-led government of attempting to manipulate the electoral process and regain power through what they described as “vote theft.” Tension prevailed briefly at NTR Chowk when police tried to prevent the burning of the effigy. A heated scuffle broke out between police personnel and Congress workers before the protesters managed to set the effigy ablaze.
