Bank staff demand 5-day banking, fair PLI scheme

Ongole: Bank employees and union leaders organised a meeting here on Friday, demanding immediate implementation of five-day banking and removal of irregularities in the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

Speaking at the meeting, coordinated by UFBU convener Rajiv Ratan Dev, leaders said bank employees are working under severe pressure due to growing business targets, digital banking responsibilities, and increasing administrative duties. They observed that employees are not machines and also have families, health needs, and personal lives. They urged the management to adopt a modern work system to improve employee morale, efficiency, and productivity. On the PLI issue, leaders expressed strong resentment at the meeting. They said that while banks are showing profits and growth, employees are not getting their fair share. They described the inequalities and injustice in the PLI system as unacceptable.

Leaders N Srinivas, Subbarao, Rajesh Khanna, Uma Shankar, Ravi Prakash, Brahmanayudu, Kishore Reddy, and SK Hasan were present. Leaders from LIC, AITUC, and CITU also participated in the meeting and expressed solidarity with the demands. Retired bank employees also declared full support for the agitation.
