Ongole: The Left parties staged a protest opposite RTC Bus Stand here on Sunday demanding cancellation of the Special Intensive Revision of voters lists and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

They also condemned the arrests of leaders and students who protested in Delhi.

Ongole city CPM and CPI secretaries Chikati Srinivasarao and Sriram Srinivasarao presided over the programme.

Speaking at the protest, CPI district secretary R Venkatrao said the right to vote is the foundation of democracy. He demanded that the Election Commission act transparently so that names of eligible citizens are not removed.

CPM district secretary SK Mabu alleged that the BJP and RSS are weakening democracy by using government institutions. He urged youth, students and democratic forces to unite.

CPI(ML) leader N Sai lamented that arrests at Jantar Mantar and rude behaviour towards women students hurt the right to protest. CPI (ML) New Democracy leader P Mohan urged people to fight together until the revision is cancelled.
