Rajahmundry: Congress Working Committee member and former APCC president Gidugu Rudraraju has demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that he was functioning in an arbitrary and undemocratic manner.
In a press statement, Rudraraju said media reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections on at least 14 occasions over the past 10 months to decisions taken without their knowledge had raised serious concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission.
He alleged that the Election Commission was acting in favour of the ruling BJP instead of functioning as an independent constitutional body. He said the Opposition INDIA bloc had decided to move an impeachment motion against the CEC in Parliament and would continue its agitation until he was removed.
