Tirupati: An APSRTC bus bound for Tirupati met with an accident near Viralam in Valmikipuram mandal on Tuesday morning, leaving at least 20 passengers injured.
The bus, operated by the Madanapalle APSRTC depot, was travelling from Madanapalle to Tirupati when the accident occurred on the Madanapalle-Tirupati highway.
According to police, one of the tyres of the bus reportedly got punctured while the vehicle was passing near Viralam.
Following the incident, the driver is said to have lost control of the bus. It veered off the highway, entered a roadside culvert and overturned. Several passengers sustained injuries in the accident.
The injured were shifted to the Valmikipuram government hospital, where some of them were provided first aid. Passengers who required further medical attention were later shifted to the Government District Hospital in Madanapalle.
Police reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the accident. Valmikipuram Sub-Inspector C Tippe Swamy registered a case and took up further investigation.
