Extensive arrangements for Venkatagiri Poleramma Jatara
Tirupati: The district administration is making elaborate arrangements for the five-day Sri Poleramma Ammavari Jatara in Venkatagiri from September 27 to October 1, with focus on the convenience and safety of devotees.
District Collector Dr S Venkateswar held a coordination meeting in Venkatagiri on Wednesday to review arrangements for the event which is a State festival. The festival will begin with Ghatotsavam on September 27, while main celebrations will be held on September 30. The festival will conclude on October 1 with Niluvu and Nishkramana programmes.
Officials are planning arrangements for the expected increase in the number of devotees by reviewing problems faced during previous years. Special attention is being given to law and order, traffic, queue management, sanitation, drinking water, toilets and medical facilities.
About 1,200 police personnel will be deployed for security. VIP darshan will be allowed only between 6 am and 9 am to ensure that regular devotees are not inconvenienced. Around 150 RTC buses will be operated for devotees, compared to 90 buses last year. Additional buses are also being arranged based on the expected rush.
Venkatagiri MLA Kurugondla Ramakrishna said the number of devotees could increase by 30 to 40 per cent this year. Queue lines, parking areas and traffic routes are being planned accordingly. He said arrangements were also being made for about 50 additional buses.
Devotees can purchase Rs 300 darshan tickets in advance and use a separate queue. The MLA urged devotees to follow the queue system and cooperate with the authorities. Cultural programmes costing around Rs 40 lakh will be organised, with artists from Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru expected to participate.
SP L Subba Rayudu said special measures were being taken for crowd, traffic and procession management. An Integrated Command Control Centre, CCTV cameras and drones will be used to monitor the festival area.
