Tirupati: Penumuru police arrested a man in connection with the murder of his father at Manikyarayunipalli village in Penumuru mandal of Chittoor district on Wednesday night. The accused, identified as S Jokesh Reddy alias Balaji, was arrested near Sai Nagar Colony on Pakala Road on Thursday.
Speaking to the media in Chittoor on Friday, police officials said that they also seized the knife allegedly used in the murder, the motorcycle used by him and his blood-stained shirt.
According to police, Jokesh Reddy, working as Hitachi operator, had been living separately in Penumuru for about nine years due to family disputes. His wife, Chudamani, had called his father, S Chenga Reddy, on Wednesday evening and asked him to come to their house, complaining about Jokesh’s alleged drinking habit and debts.
Police said Jokesh feared that his father would reprimand him over his drinking and debts. He allegedly went to his parents’ house around 8 pm carrying a knife. During a conversation, his father reportedly questioned him about the same issues, following which Jokesh allegedly attacked him with the knife in the presence of his mother and fled from the spot. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s wife, Penumuru police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the BNS and launched an investigation. A special police team traced the accused and arrested him the next day. Police said the seized items would form part of the investigation.
