Tirupati: Senior TDP leaders, including Chandragiri MLA Pulivarty Nani, Puthalapattu MLA K Murali Mohan, and TUDA Chairman C Divakar Reddy, sharply condemned the political violence that erupted at the Punganur nomination center on the first day of local body election filings.

Addressing a press conference in Tirupati on Saturday, the leaders accused YSRCP Rajampet MP Midhun Reddy and his supporters of violating State Election Commission guidelines and deliberately inciting tension. The clash occurred at Basavaraja Government Junior College when MP Midhun Reddy accompanied YSRCP candidates.

According to police, the MP arrived with nearly 100 supporters in six vehicles, defying election protocol. The situation turned volatile after TDP workers objected to the convoy, triggering a clash between opposing party cadres.

Puthalapattu MLA Murali Mohan remarked that the incident demonstrated YSRCP’s utter disregard for democratic principles, questioning why a sitting MP required a massive motorcade and crowd for municipal nomination filings.

He added that any grievances against election officials should have been formally escalated to higher authorities rather than resorting to intimidation tactics.
