Tirupati: Leaders of opposition parties staged protests and dharnas at several places in pilgrim city on Friday demanding action against ruling party activists. After completion of the time for receiving nominations, TDP activists arrived at Municipal Corporation Office and squatted before the Chittoor District Election Observer Siddartha Jain car.

They demanded election observer to take appropriate action against the ruling YSRCP leaders who had threatened and attacked the opposition candidates. They said that some YSRCP leaders manhandled former MLA Sugunamma when she was filing nomination in the morning. The TDP activists staged a dharna at the municipal office for more than an hour.

In another incident, CPM followers staged dharna under the leadership of its district leader Kandarapu Murali at 42nd division Returning Officer's office and demanded action against ruling YSRCP leader Rajesh who had torn out the nomination papers of independent candidate Chandrika.
