Vijayawada: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Eagle Ake Ravi Krishna lauded the efforts of the Vayovrudha Charitable Trust for bringing together and honouring centenarians every year despite considerable efforts.
A centenarians’ felicitation programme was organised by the trust with the support of donor Mangalal Solanki at Vijay Nursing College in Durgapuram here on Sunday. Ravi Krishna, who was the chief guest, felicitated the centenarians along with the trustees and donors.
Speaking on the occasion, he said it was commendable that the trust had been honouring centenarians for the past 12 years on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons. Old age was an inevitable part of everyone’s life and senior citizens deserved care and respect, he said. He said people should remember that “age affects the body, not the mind” and advised senior citizens to remain alert as they were increasingly becoming targets of cybercrimes.
Trust chairman Dr Challa Harikumar and vice-chairman Tejraj Solanki said the annual event was aimed at sharing the inspiring messages of centenarians with society.
Padma Shri awardee Annavarapu Ramaswamy and 13 other centenarians were felicitated with new clothes, cash awards and essential commodities. Games competitions were also conducted for senior citizens and prizes distributed.
