Vijayawada: The CPM on Tuesday staged a protest at the Krishna District Mutually Aided Cooperative Union Limited, popularly known as Vijaya Dairy at Chittinagar in Vijayawada, opposing the recent hike in milk prices by Rs 2 per litre and demanded its immediate withdrawal. The protest assumed significance as it was held on the day newly elected Vijaya Dairy chairman Dr Dasari Balavardhana Rao assumed charge.
CPM leaders reached the dairy to submit a memorandum against the price hike, but security personnel and police initially prevented them from entering the premises. Following an argument, the protesters pushed through the main gate and entered the dairy premises, creating tension for a brief period.
Vijaya Dairy MD Kolli Eswara Rao, along with several dairy directors, spoke to the protesters and conveyed their representation to the chairman. Later, the CPM state secretariat member Ch Baburao, along with others, met Dr Balavardhana Rao and submitted a memorandum seeking withdrawal of the increased prices.
