Arrangements being made at the Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada for the Dasara Sarannavaratri festivities on Wednesday
Vijayawada: With the Dasara Sarannavaratri festivities fast approaching, Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri here has intensified arrangements to facilitate devotees expected from across Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring States.
The 10-day Dasara festivities will be held from October 11 to 20, with temple authorities expecting around 25 lakh devotees during the celebrations. A large number of Bhavani devotees are also expected to visit the temple for two to three days after the festivities.
The arrangements are being coordinated with the support of the State government and various departments, including Endowments, Revenue, Municipal Administration, Police and the NTR district administration, with the primary objective of ensuring hassle-free darshan for common devotees.
Under the guidance of Endowments Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy and Commissioner K Ramachandra Mohan, temple trust board chairman Borra Radhakrishna and Executive Officer (EO) VK Seena Naik are supervising the arrangements. NTR district collector Dr G Lakshmisha, Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu and VMC Commissioner HM Dhyanachandra are also regularly inspecting the arrangements and coordinating with officials of various departments. The queue lines from the Vinayaka temple on Canal Road to the hilltop and from Kummaripalem Centre towards the Ghat Road are almost complete. Roof protection has been provided at several points to protect devotees from the sun, besides seating facilities along the queue lines.
Additional arrangements have been intensified at the TTD premises near Kummaripalem Centre and the Shadikhana at Gupta Centre to accommodate devotees. Special holding areas have also been established to regulate the rush during peak hours. Arrangements for head tonsuring, prasadam distribution and other facilities have also been completed.
In view of the large number of devotees expected to take a holy dip in the Krishna River, the temple authorities, with the support of the Water Resources Department, are making arrangements for bathing facilities. Drinking water, Anna Prasadam and milk for babies and senior citizens will also be provided at various locations. The police department, under the supervision of CP SV Rajasekhar Babu, has strengthened security and crowd-management measures.
As devotees are not permitted to carry mobile phones into the temple, mobile phone locker facilities have been arranged at Kanaka Durga Nagar. Holding areas have also been established on the railway land to facilitate the movement of devotees.
The temple authorities are planning to make more than 60 lakh laddus available to devotees during the Dasara festivities. Laddu prasadam arrangements have been made at the Laddu Prasadam complex and Buddhavari Kalyana Mandapam.
