Vijayawada: Lanka Dinakar, chairman of the Implementation of the 20-Point Programme (Viksit Bharat–Swarna Andhra Pradesh), has criticised YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s remarks on democratic institutions, questioning their consistency with his party’s record during its tenure in power.

Reacting to Jagan’s statement on the Election Commission, “An Examiner Can’t Be Appointed by the Student,” Dinakar recalled the controversy surrounding the removal of then State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar in 2021 and the subsequent appointment of Kanagaraj, which led to legal proceedings and judicial intervention.

He also questioned Jagan’s present stand on appointments to independent constitutional institutions, referring to the appointment of former Chief Secretary Neelam Sawhney as State Election Commissioner during the previous YSRCP government. He stressed that such appointments must adhere to established laws, rules and procedures.

Dinakar said the people had delivered their verdict on the previous government’s policies in the 2024 elections. He clarified that the BJP had never contested elections in alliance with Jagan or the YSRCP, adding that support for individual bills in Parliament should not be interpreted as a political alliance.
