Vijayawada: A love affair claimed two lives at New Rajarajeswari Peta in Vijayawada on Saturday when a 22-year-old man allegedly attacked a 19-year-old woman with a knife before jumping to his death from the terrace of an apartment building. The woman later succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

According to local residents, Padavala Mahalakshmi (19) and Moku Chinna (22), both residents of New Rajarajeswari Peta, had been in a relationship for some time. They had reportedly informed their families of their intention to marry. However, the woman’s family was said to have opposed the proposal, following which Mahalakshmi had been keeping her distance from Chinna.

On Saturday morning, Chinna allegedly went to Mahalakshmi’s house and attacked her with a knife, causing severe injuries to her neck. She was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Despite efforts by doctors, she died while undergoing treatment. Following the attack, Chinna reportedly went to the terrace of a G+3 JNNURM apartment complex in New Rajarajeswari Peta and jumped from the building. He died on the spot.

The Ajith Singh Nagar police registered a case and began an investigation into the incident. The bodies were shifted to the government hospital for post-mortem examination. Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the attack and subsequent death of the youth.
