Vijayawada: With the Dasara Sarannavarathri festivities scheduled to begin at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri on October 11, temple authorities have put in place a technology-driven security and crowd management plan to ensure the safety and convenience of devotees.
Temple Executive Officer VK Seena Naik said on Thursday that the arrangements had been made in coordination with various government departments such as NTR district administration, police, VMC, endowments and others, with the convenience of common devotees being given top priority.
As part of the security measures, facial recognition and QR-code-based scanning systems have been introduced at Om Turning to verify the identity cards of personnel before allowing them towards the hill.
Boom barriers have also been installed to prevent unauthorised private vehicles from entering the hilltop. A network of CCTV cameras will closely monitor the queue lines, holding areas and other key locations.
Three major holding areas have been established at Seethamma Vari Padalu, near the Electricity Department and Municipal Corporation offices, and at the vacant railway land near the old flower market.
The facilities have been divided into 70 compartments and can accommodate up to 18,000 devotees at a time. Seventy CCTV cameras, large display screens and public address systems have been installed at the holding areas. Devotees will be released in batches into the queue lines depending on the crowd situation.
The main queue route extends for about 1,650 metres from the Vinayaka temple through Canal Road and Tollgate and can accommodate around 8,500 devotees. An alternative route through Kanaka Durganagar and the Maha Mandapam ramp will be used in case of heavy rain or emergencies.
For last-mile connectivity, eight temple buses, along with mini-buses and tempos, will operate continuously. Free transport facilities will be provided to persons with disabilities.
The temple has also made arrangements for drinking water at 54 locations, besides 370 toilets and 600 showers. Food and refreshments, including buttermilk and biscuits, will be supplied to devotees waiting at the holding areas.
