Thyagarajan’s five-wicket haul puts Hyderabad in driver’s seat

Hyderabad’s Tanay Thyagarajan
Vijayawada: Visiting Hyderabad pacer Tanay Thyagarajan claimed a five-wicket haul to dismantle Andhra’s batting line-up and give his team a crucial 91-run first-innings lead on the second day of Elite Group B Ranji Trophy match at Devineni Venkata Ramana Praneetha ACA Cricket Grounds in Mulapadu, near Vijayawada, on Monday.
At stumps, Hyderabad were 78 for one in their second innings in 22.5 overs, extending their overall lead to 169 runs with nine wickets remaining. Opener Tanmay Agarwal was batting on 49, while Rahul Singh was unbeaten on two.
Resuming their first innings at nine without loss, Andhra suffered an early setback when Abhirath Reddy was dismissed by Hyderabad skipper Mohammed Siraj. Hemanth Reddy and Shaik Rasheed attempted to stabilise the innings, but Hemanth fell for 10 in the 11th over.
Ricky Bhui scored 28 before being run out at the team total of 91 for three in the 30th over, leaving Andhra under pressure. Rasheed offered resistance with a fighting 61, but Thyagarajan trapped him leg-before-wicket to break the partnership and put Hyderabad firmly in control.
The remaining Andhra batters failed to build substantial partnerships. Revanth Reddy scored 12, Seeram Venkat Rahul made 27 and Venkat Sasikanth contributed 14.
Tripurana Vijay remained unbeaten on 25, but Andhra were bowled out for 184 in 63 overs.
Thyagarajan finished with five wickets for 63 runs, while Gangam Aniketh Reddy claimed two for 60 and Siraj took one for 31.
Hyderabad began their second innings confidently despite losing Abhirath Reddy, who was dismissed leg-before-wicket by Kavuri Saiteja. Tanmay Agarwal held firm at the crease, taking Hyderabad to 78 for one at the close of play. With a 169-run overall lead and nine wickets in hand, Hyderabad were well placed to strengthen their position on the third day.
