VMC finalises 848 polling stations for civic polls

Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has finalised 848 polling stations across 86 divisions for the forthcoming ordinary local body elections. The finalisation of the polling stations marks another key step in the VMC’s preparations for the civic elections following the completion of the delimitation exercise.
The polling stations were finalised following the delimitation of VMC divisions, which increased their number from 64 to 86. The number of polling stations in each division has been determined based on voter strength to facilitate smooth voting. According to the ward-wise details, 27 divisions have nine polling stations each, 45 divisions have 10 polling stations each and 14 divisions have 11 polling stations each.
VMC Additional Commissioner (General) and Elections Nodal Officer A Ravindra Rao said the final polling station details were displayed at the VMC headquarters, NTR District Collectorate, Vijayawada Revenue Divisional Office, Head Post Office, Court Complex and all tahsildar offices on Friday. Voters can verify the details of their respective polling stations at these locations, he said.
Ravindra Rao said voters and political parties who have any objections or doubts regarding the final polling stations could submit their representations to the concerned Ward Returning Officers by September 26.
Further, he said the VMC is making arrangements for basic amenities at all polling locations, including drinking water, adequate lighting, ramps for persons with disabilities and toilet facilities. Necessary logistical arrangements are also being coordinated with the election authorities to ensure smooth conduct of polling across all 86 divisions, he added.
