A comprehensive neuro lab gets launched in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: A comprehensive neuro lab offering advanced neurological diagnostic services under one roof was launched to reduce the need for patients to travel to metropolitan cities such as Hyderabad and Bengaluru for specialised tests. The facility at KIMS Icon Hospital in Visakhapatnam was inaugurated on Monday by Dr Y Jawahar, former Medical Officer of Indian Navy and International Red Cross Ship.
According to hospital officials, the facility is the first-of-its-kind in Visakhapatnam to bring together a wide range of major neuro-diagnostic investigations at a single platform. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jawahar said availability of multiple specialised neurological investigations at one location would considerably benefit people in Visakhapatnam and the surrounding regions. Access to advanced diagnostic facilities locally would reduce the need for patients to travel to other metropolitan cities, he said.
Hospital Managing Director Dr Satish Kumar Patakam Setty said the hospital was committed to providing neurological services in line with international standards. “Until now, patients from Visakhapatnam requiring certain specialised neurological investigations had to travel to cities such as Hyderabad and Bengaluru. With the new facility, neuro-diagnostic services will be available round the clock, including emergency services,” he informed.
He added that timely access to diagnostic investigations would enable doctors to identify neurological conditions faster and initiate appropriate treatment without unnecessary delays. Consultant neurologist CH Vijay said the neuro lab is equipped to perform a range of advanced investigations, including nerve conduction studies, visual evoked potential, brainstem auditory evoked potential, somatosensory evoked potential, electromyography, Video EEG and transcranial doppler.
