Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) launched its BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week (BSLW–2026) in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. As part of the weeklong initiative, yoga sessions and sapling plantation programmes formed part of the inaugural day at seven depots in Visakhapatnam district. The event aims at promoting health awareness and environmental responsibility among RTC employees.
APSRTC Regional Manager B Appalanaidu and chief mechanical engineer, Vijayawada, K Venkatrao participated as chief guests at Maddilapalem depot. Encouraging the employees, the APSRTC Regional Manager highlighted the importance of maintaining good health and developing awareness about adopting a healthy lifestyle. He said employees could discharge their duties with greater enthusiasm and efficiency only when they remain physically and mentally fit. Chief mechanical engineer K Venkat Rao urged the employees to lead a healthy lifestyle and adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.
The BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week provides a platform to mobilise citizens, communities and institutions towards practical actions for sustainable living. The state-wide campaign is being organised in alignment with local priorities and ongoing government programmes, with a focus on the seven themes of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment). The initiative aims to encourage citizens and communities to adopt sustainable lifestyle practices, translate the seven Mission LiFE themes into visible action and leverage existing government schemes, institutions and community networks for wider outreach.
It also seeks to involve youth, educational institutions, local bodies, civil society organisations and private-sector partners in citizen-led initiatives while documenting and showcasing innovative practices and measurable outcomes across the state.
The week-long campaign will focus on seven key themes, adopting healthy lifestyles, saving energy, conserving water, promoting sustainable food systems, avoiding single-use plastics, reducing electronic waste and minimising waste generation.
