Visakhapatnam: Every detail is being focused on as arrangements are going on in full swing to ensure smooth execution of ensuing local body elections.
Plans are in place to set up election material distribution centres at various zones across GVMC jurisdiction. Both district administration and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation officials are coordinating to make elaborate plans for the forthcoming polls.
Earlier, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg along with additional commissioners and town planning, engineering, and other department officials, carried out a detailed inspection of various departmental buildings, blocks and rooms on the Andhra University College of Engineering campus.
A couple of suitable locations for setting up election material distribution centres and counting centres were inspected.
Suitable locations for establishing election material distribution centres in GVMC east and south zones were examined. Officials are making advance arrangements for registration counters, public address/announcement systems, CCTV cameras, police counters, vehicle parking, food counters and other essential facilities to ensure hassle-free movement and convenience of election personnel.
Andhra University College of Engineering campus was inspected for setting up counting centres for all GVMC zones after the elections. Engineering College new classroom complex, department of computer science and systems engineering, engineering college principal block and other buildings are under consideration to handle the counting process.As part of the exercise, the Commissioner examined the availability of rooms, entry and exit points and other facilities required for the smooth movement of election officials, staff and counting agents.
After directing the engineering officials to make advance arrangements to ensure sufficient lighting in the premises, Ketan Garg mentioned that special attention is paid to security, uninterrupted power supply and adequate lighting at the counting centres, particularly during night hours.
From the conduct of elections to the counting of votes, Ketan Garg emphasised that every stage of the election process should be carried out in a systematic and transparent manner in compliance with the prescribed election rules and guidelines. He sought the support of the additional commissioners and concerned officials to work in close coordination with each other for a hassle-free conduct of the polls.
With intense preparations complete, department-wise responsibilities assigned, and infrastructure arrangements ready, the civic body is gearing up for the local body elections.
