Visakhapatnam: The sacred hills of Simhachalam witnessed a spectacular display of spirituality and physical wellness as more than 325 yoga practitioners and instructors performed 108-round of mass Surya Namaskarams under the banner ‘Surya Pranaam’ here on Sunday.
Organised jointly by Aum Free Yoga Centre in collaboration with Simhachalam Devasthanam, the event saw participants of diverse age groups performing Surya Namaskarams in unison, offering prayers and salutations to the Sun God.
The programme highlighted the significance of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and spiritual harmony, and in striking a balance in the body-mind-soul connection.
Speaking on the occasion, Aum Free Yoga Centre founder Chilaka Venkata Ramesh said the centre has been spreading the message of ‘health through yoga’ by providing free yoga training to people across Visakhapatnam. He stated that the event at Simhachalam marked the organisation’s third 108-round Surya Namaskaram programme at the sacred hill shrines.
As part of propagating holistic wellness through yoga, the centre organised mass Surya Namaskaram programmes at spiritually significant locations, including the Arasavalli Sun God Temple in Srikakulam district and the premises of the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha.
The programme at Simhachalam served as an effective platform to bring people together beyond age barriers and encourage them to make yoga an integral part of their wellness routine. Simhachalam Devasthanam chief priest Godavarthi Srinivasacharyulu and representatives of the yoga centre, including Shantaram, Suresh Babu and Medapati Raveendra Babu, were present.
