Visakhapatnam Port Authority
Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Port Authority has strengthened its environmental monitoring infrastructure by installing and commissioning three new continuous ambient air quality Monitoring stations (CAAQMS) at strategic locations in Akkayyapalem, Pandurangapuram and Malkapuram, bringing the total number of CAAQMS stations under VPA to six.
The three existing CAAQMS stations are located at GCB gate area, VPA fire station road and R&D yard area. With the addition of the three new stations, VPA has expanded the spatial coverage of continuous ambient air quality monitoring across the port and surrounding areas. The newly-installed CAAQMS stations are covered under a 10-year comprehensive annual maintenance contract ensuring continued operation and maintenance of the monitoring network over the long term. The expanded CAAQMS network will enable continuous and real-time monitoring of ambient air quality, generate reliable air-quality data for assessing pollution levels and trends, and strengthen the identification and assessment of air-pollution hotspots. It also supports the evaluation of the effectiveness of dust-control and pollution-mitigation measures implemented by VPA facilitates data-driven environmental management and decision-making, enhances transparency and public awareness regarding ambient air quality and supports coordinated efforts with statutory authorities.
